Australia Day 2011 Celebrations (12 Photos)

January 26, 2011 is Australia Day! This is an official national public holiday of Australia that commemorates the arrival of the First Fleet at Sydney Cove in 1788 and the proclamation at that time of British sovereignty over the eastern seaboard of New Holland.

While most Sydneysiders opted for famous beaches like Bondi Beach, Manly Beach, Cronulla Beaches, among others, we opted to go for a "barbie"picnic at Sydney's Bi-Centential Park located beside the iconic Sydney Olympic Park.

Yes, there were variety shows. From performances of young Aussie
singer-songwriters, Historical Dances, Aussie Country Bands,
to other international performances.

Even birds celebrate Australia Day!
I was really close to these birds when I took this photo
